Programme Purpose

  • Equip apprentices with technical knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on experience to become qualified artisans.

  • Combines classroom learning with on-the-job exposure.

  • Prepares apprentices for independent and productive workplace performance.


Key Responsibilities

Upon completion, apprentices are expected to demonstrate competence in:

  • Planning and preparing work sites, tools, consumables, and materials

  • Using hand, power, and measuring tools effectively

  • Manufacturing, assembling, and inspecting metal components

  • Commissioning, modifying, and repairing metal structures and installations

  • Conducting tests and inspections to ensure quality and safety standards


Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

Applicants must meet one of these pathways:

Option 1: N2 Certificate

  • Mathematics (Pure)

  • Engineering Science

  • Plating & Structural Drawing

  • Engineering Drawing (Draughting)

  • Metal Worker’s Theory

  • Plater’s Theory

Option 2: N3–N6 Certificate

  • Mathematics (Pure)

  • Engineering Science

  • Plating & Structural Drawing

  • Engineering Drawing (Draughting)

  • Mechanotechnology

Option 3: NCV Level 4 (Vocational)

  • English & Life Orientation

  • Mathematics (Pure)

  • Engineering Process, Professional Engineering Practice, Applied Engineering Technology, Welding

Option 4: Technical Grade 12

  • Mechanical Technology (Welding & Metal Work)

  • Mathematics, Physical Science

  • Engineering & Graphic Design

  • Home Language & First Additional Language

  • Life Orientation

Additional Requirements

  • Age: 18–35 years

  • South African citizen

  • Strong communication, analytical, and teamwork skills

  • Problem-solving ability
