About the Internship

  • The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is offering a dynamic internship opportunity to support the GBVF (Gender-Based Violence and Femicide) Directorate in administration, stakeholder coordination, and information management. This internship provides a valuable hands-on learning experience focused on gender-based violence prevention and response in South Africa.
  • Interns will report to the Gender M&E Analyst and contribute to UNFPA’s goals of ending preventable maternal deaths, unmet needs for family planning, and gender-based violence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Information and Data Support
    • Maintain and update the GBVF information repository
    • Catalogue reports and resources from civil society, government, and partners
    • Track data usage and manage requests
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Maintain and update the stakeholder engagement spreadsheet
    • Verify stakeholder data quarterly
  • Meeting and Event Coordination
    • Schedule stakeholder and partner meetings
    • Assist with meeting agendas, minutes, and follow-ups
    • Provide logistical support for workshops and consultations
  • Project Tracking
    • Identify and monitor GBVF-related projects in South Africa
    • Attend virtual meetings and document key discussions
    • Share updates on internal projects

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Requirements (must meet one of the following):
    • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s programme (completed at least one year)
    • Enrolled in a postgraduate programme (e.g., Master’s)
    • Recently graduated (within the past 12 months)
    • Enrolled in a postgraduate trainee programme
  • Other Requirements:
    • Strong interest in development and gender equality
    • Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
    • Ability to work in diverse cultural environments
    • Experience with development agencies or volunteering is a plus
    • Strong writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills

Learning Outcomes
