Position Overview:
The Upper Elementary Homeroom Teacher at AISJ will deliver exceptional educational experiences, fostering a positive and inclusive environment that nurtures student growth. This role aligns with the school’s mission to inspire learning and build a better world, applying the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework and facilitating inquiry-based learning. The ideal candidate will foster student agency and cultivate robust relationships within a diverse community.

Qualifications, Experience & Role Requirements:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; Master’s degree in Education is highly desirable.

  • Certification/Licensure: Valid teaching certification from an accredited body or an equivalent international certification is required.

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 3 years of full-time teaching experience in an elementary setting. Experience in an international school environment is preferred. Experience leading PYP Exhibition is highly desirable.

  • Specialized Training: Demonstrated experience with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework. Prior PYP Category 1 and 2 training is highly preferred.

  • Design and implement a transdisciplinary curriculum grounded in the IB PYP framework.

  • Apply developmentally appropriate best practices in teaching and assessment.

  • Cultivate a positive classroom environment that promotes student agency and fosters strong relationships.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to support student learning and differentiate instruction.

  • Contribute actively to school life by fulfilling supervisory duties, participating in school events, and engaging in extracurricular activities.

  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance pedagogical expertise.

  • Manage classroom resources to support active learning.

Teacher Competencies:

  • Promoting Relationships & Community: Foster inclusive learning environments that embrace diversity and connect learning to students’ real-world experiences.

Work Schedule:

  • Work Days: Monday through Friday (188 days per school year).

  • Work Hours: 7:10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday); 7:10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Wednesday).

  • Contact Time: 65% to 75% of the workday spent with students.
