Job Description
At RCL Foods, we grow what matters! We are looking for two Utilities Artisans to join our dynamic Pies Division team. These positions are crucial for ensuring the continuous and smooth operation of utilities equipment across the plant. The role involves daily inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
The Utilities Artisans will be responsible for maintaining, installing, and repairing utilities equipment, including ammonia and freon refrigeration systems, boilers, air compressors, and electrical reticulation, all while adhering to industry standards and safety protocols.
Minimum Requirements:

N3 in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Refrigeration.

Trade Test certification.

Registration with SAQCC GAS.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Daily Plant Inspections: Inspect components like plant rooms, condensers, valve stations, spiral freezers, chillers, boilers, and air compressors to ensure optimal functioning.

Preventative Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance tasks based on work orders and time allocations to prevent equipment failure.

Troubleshooting and Repairs: Identify issues with utilities equipment and take corrective actions to resolve problems swiftly.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all PPE protocols, safety regulations related to ammonia handling, pressure vessels, critical valves, and other statutory requirements such as the OHS Act and SANS 10147.

Documentation: Maintain detailed records of inspections, maintenance tasks, repairs, quick-fix routines, and root cause analysis for breakdowns.

Operating Equipment: Operate lifting machinery and other necessary equipment during maintenance tasks.

Quality Control: Ensure compliance with all quality, housekeeping, safety, and production standards.

Training and Supervision: Assist experienced technicians, and provide guidance and training to apprentices and assistants.

Emergency Response: Receive training on emergency procedures and safety equipment usage, including the “buddy-buddy” system.

Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.
Knowledge and Skills:

Ammonia Refrigeration: In-depth knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems, including components and operational procedures.

Mechanical and Electrical Expertise: Strong skills in mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair.

Safety Protocols: Proficient in safety protocols for handling utilities equipment, ammonia, and working in hazardous environments.

Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve issues effectively in refrigeration systems.

Communication and Teamwork: Excellent communication skills for collaboration with colleagues and supervisors.

Documentation & Record-Keeping: Accurate and thorough record-keeping of maintenance activities and inspections.
